2004 Bywater Home Tour

Site 9

A circa 1890 Eastlake style bracketed double. After being vacant for several years, the entire house was recently renovated into a two bedroom two bathroom single. Renovations include the replacement of all mechanical equipment and a slight modification of the floor plan. The removal of the center wall between the first rooms created a large open living and dining space. The dining room has an antique grape motif brass gas and electric chandelier of the period. The kitchen was relocated to a more central location, which allowed the bedrooms to be placed in the quiet rear of the house.

Care and attention were devoted to maintaining and enhancing the interior period details such as the original long leaf pine flooring, wainscoting and mantles. Period doors were installed to replace the missing original doors stripped from this home. The front concrete steps were removed and replaced with beautifully milled cypress steps that better represent the entryways from the period of the house. Local color specialist who gave a very popular lecture in 2003 to BNA members, Louis J. Aubert, selected the colors for the house. The very private fenced rear patio has a deck surrounded with flowering Crepe Myrtles.
