2004 Bywater Home Tour

Growth is in the works at the comer of Pauline and Rampart streets, in front of the Frederick Douglass High School Gym! The North Star Village Garden doesn't took like much right now, but as it grows the site will farm a variety of flowers, herbs, vegetables and fruits. At this time it is a forum for young gardeners from the UrbanHeart after-school program to learn about the science, art and play of horticulture. Our dream, down the road, is to be able to offer ornamental plants and organic produce for sale to the local community.

The garden is generously supported through the UrbanHeart after-school program, the North Star Village Coalition, and the Green Project. The UrbanHeart program offers a variety of educational, tutoring and enrichment activities for elementary and middle school kids in the area. Program activities are generally at Frederick Douglass High School or Drew Elementary School. Monthly field trips take place at various other venues & transportation is provided. For more information on getting involved with the Garden, the UrbanHeart program, or the Community Coalition, please contact the Garden Coordinator Cindy Mandarine at 488-3531.

P.S. The garden is in desperate need of the following materials: pressure treated lumber & cinder blocks. We will also accept several other garden material donations including plants, bags of garden soil, bags of sand, vermiculite, bags of mortar & the like. Please contact Cindy Mandarine to co-ordinate donations and for possible pick-up of materials.
